Setting the Table

Today, we set the Table.  
We ask ourselves who to invite.  
We invite our closest friends–
our most loved ones.

After that, who do we invite?
Which acquaintances?
Which friends?
Which neighbors?

Do we invite the ones who
make us uncomfortable?  Who
eat too much or talk too much
and say what we most don't want to hear?

Do we invite the strange and the annoying?
The friend who betrayed us?
The friend we've embarrassed 
who said they didn't know us?

Today, we set the Table.  
Today, we make the big decisions.  
Who do we invite?
Who do we exclude?

Let us follow the footsteps of Love.
Let us say Yes! to everything and
Every One.
When there isn't enough room

Let's scooch
and make more space
Laugh more
and practice love.
