This year, we made some changes to our usual Christmas giving in the community. We chose to support the Salvation Army as many of us have known (or been) recipients of support from the Salvation Army. It was our way to give back to an organization that is on the ground helping–we’ve seen it first hand.
We also chose to support the Holiday Helpers at the YMCA. Holiday Helpers accepts donations of items (and monetary donations) so that families lacking in funds can “shop” for free to “purchase” gifts for family members. They also purchase gift cards so that families can purchase food for their holiday meals. It seemed like such a lovely way to give back and to something that helps locally. The thank you card we got in return was enough to bring us to tears…literally.
Small good work done and making a difference.
